Charlie and Linus discuss the true meaning of Christmas
November 21, 2008
Organizers say it was a resounding success on all fronts.
"We played to two full houses for our dress rehearsals," says Erika van Oyen, SD23 teacher and Niteo Board of Directors member. "And with each rehearsal, we raised both awareness of the need for programs like ours in Uganda as well as money towards making those plans into reality."
Students from across the district came to the Kelowna Community Theatre to watch two special dress rehearsals of Glenmore Elementary's version of "A Charlie Brown Christmas". Organizers aren't sure yet, but they believe the rehearsals raised between $1500 and $2000 towards the purchase of a bookmobile for the use of students around Kampala, Uganda.
Rhonda Draper, Glenmore music specialist and director of the play, thanked the teachers and students for supporting the cause.

"You're doing something great for other people, which is the real spirit of Christmas and what this play is all about," she said.
The show played later in the evening to members of the public, with proceeds from that portion going to support music and arts education at the school.
